Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has confirmed the suspension of winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who is currently under investigation after testing positive during a doping test.
Enzo Maresca, a Ukrainian international, confirmed on Tuesday the results of the test, revealing that he had tested positive for a banned substance. In a statement, he asserted his innocence, emphasizing that he never knowingly consumed any illegal substances.
As Chelsea prepare for their upcoming UEFA Conference League match against Shamrock Rovers on Thursday, Maresca expressed his unwavering support for Mudryk and reiterated the belief within the club that the winger is innocent.
During his pre-match press conference, Maresca stated, “We all believe Mudryk is innocent. For sure, he will come back.” He added, “I don’t think Misha’s Chelsea career is over. I truly believe he will return to play for us again.”
However, Maresca acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Mudryk’s return, noting, “We don’t know when that will be; that is the only doubt we have at this moment. But, without a doubt, he will be back.”
Note that Mykhailo Mudryk has not played for Chelsea since November 28 and has missed their last five matches in all competitions.
Although he was included in the squad for the team’s victory against Aston Villa on December 1, he did not take to the field. Head coach Enzo Maresca indicated that Mudryk’s absence was due to illness.
Recall that Mudryk joined Chelsea from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal valued at up to £89 million in 2023 and has made 73 appearances, scoring 10 goals for the club.
